I know it's not the first time I try to apologize about not posting ANYTHING on this blog, but I decided to post one more apology text! :)
I feel really sad for ignoring the readers, the people who follow this blog and of course, the blog itself. I also feel really sad for not broadcasting. But unfortunatelly, I have to. Spare tame is so rare for a student like me, who tries to do his best in order to get into the university. Pressure, pressure and lots of studying is the summary of my everyday life since September. So,as you may have expected, I prefer to spend my little leisure time on going out, reading a book or playing a PC game. I just don't have the time and courage to collect info, edit it and post it on Thessaloniki Rock. I know it's a shame for all the people(2,6,100,200 I don't know) who want to read something I've written/found. The same goes for the internet radio station.
But don't worry, it's 6.5 months only left. And then I will be back, or at least I will try hard to be. You know, I want to do so many things after school!! But, even if this blog is abandoned, you can be sure that Kostis' broadcasting will never die. VIVA LA RADIO!!!!

P.S. Happy birthday my dear blog, even a bit too late... :) Oh, and make sure to check the blog if you want to. Maybe I will find 5 mins sometime to post something, as Christmas is coming!!

I Can Feel Your Heart Sink, Can You Feel Mine?

Yesterday I visited Thessaloniki's International Trade Fair with my father. Nothing special, as the fair has less and less traders and activities every year...
Next to the trade fair space, at the Vellidio Convention Center, the conference of Nea Dimokratia political party(yes, one of the parties that ruined the country) was held. At the end of the conference, the party's members and fans decided to occupy the whole street. You see, they decided to have a chat about their leader's speech, take photos etc. Fat men in costumes, smoking cigars, silly women, staring at the pedestrians like''Hey, my husband is a politician! Are you jealous?'' and old men who still believe that these people(and I mean the politicians generally) can save the country! Limos were honking, the buses were changing routes, it was a pandemonium!
And then I saw him! I saw one of the candidates for Thessaloniki's mayoralt smiling hypocritically at other people. Rarely I feel such a disgust! I wanted to slap them in the face! To shout:''Never beleive them! Don't forget what they did to us!'' But my father pushed me forward...
A few hours later, I went to the central square for an appointment. A small company of middle-aged people(probably friends) was sitting at the a cafe, singing and playing the guitar! This was the Greece that I love(and the Greece that people from other countries admire). With Greeks who forget about the problems and let go, like there's no tomorrow. It was not the IMF Greece, not the indebted Greece, not the politically corrupted Greece! I really hope that someday, the first incident will belong to the past and that all these faggots will be sent where they deserve to be:to HELL!!!

P.S. I really wanted to take a photo of these *!#$, but my cell phone's battery was almost empty.

School is here again for the last time. Books, teachers test will belong to the past in about 36 weeks! I will have to be patient but you will have to be too, as I won't have enought time for blog posts(well, maybe for a few only!). But don't worry. I'll be back next year!

PART 4

Hello and welcome to the final part of my travelogue about Ahaia 2010. Today I’m going to write about some miscellaneous destinations. A very short trip to another city, to a winery and to a lovely beach. Moreover, I will write about the nightlife. Are you ready?
NAUPAKTUS
We visited Naupactus during the last day of our vacation, before taking the way back to home. Naupactus is a small city in the continental part of Greece. Known for it’s sights and it’s tourist attractions, Naupactus is a good choice for families. Unfortunatelly, we were in a hurry, so I wasn’t able to visit anything special(the castle, monuments commemorating the Battle of Lepanto (1571), of which a statue of the famous writer Miguel de Cervantes can be found, A small water park just passed the western portion of the beach near Psani, the local museum and many historic sites), but I was able to take a cute photo at the beach(see above).

ACHAIA KLAUSS
Achaia Clauss is a legendary winery, notable for the production of the famous ‘’Mavrodafni’’ wine. It was built by Gustav Klaus in the 19th centure. As far as the buildings style is conerened, venetian castles is what comes to your mind when you first look at it. Battlement walls, warehouses with huge barrels(some of them contain 100years old wine! But it’s not for sale.), amazing city view and scenery and a small market where you can buy…wines of course!

KALOGRIA BEACH
Kalogria beach is the best beach available near Patras. I really enjoyed the crystal water and the forest near it(protected by the Ramsar Convention) but I was a bit dissapointed about the mayor’s negligence. There were not enough garbage cans, the showers were out of order and the changing room’s/cabin’s door was cranky. But the landscape helped to ignore all these!

NIGHTLIFE
Patras is famous for its nightlife, especially in winter when the city is full of students and the Carnival takes place. Pelecaneika, in the east side of Patras, is a nice place for a coffee or a filling meal. I also recommend the center of patras for it’s cafes and fast food restaurants. But the heart of nightlife, at least for my parents was not the center but Vrahneika, a town which could be considered as suburbs of the city. You can find taverns, sic restaurants, bars, clubs and many other! Be careful though, as some shops are rather expensive but do not deserve it! Ask at your hotel reception, buy a tourist guide and mainly, check out the prices in front of the restaurants! I hope I helped!

CONCLUSION
All in all, this trip to Pelopnnesus was a big pleasure for me. Sure, not everything was perfect but how could I complain, after visiting Kalavryta, Olympia, Mesolonghi, Patras and and and…? PART 3

Hello Hello! Welcome back. Today, I’m going to write about Olympia and Kalavryta. So, here we go:

OLYMPIA
I’m sure you know Olympia, the site of the ancient Olympic games! Historical information is not what I have in my mind, as you can find it all over the internet but my very personal experience and emotions.
The archaeological museum of Olympia was my first destination. Built in 1982, I think it is one of the best museums in Greece(maybe even better than the new Acropolis one), because you can admire exhibits like statues and miniatures among the collections of small tools, coins, offerings etc, available in other museums too. The gorgeous statue of Hermes bearing the infant Dionysus by Praxiteles, the Nike of Paeonius, Zeus carrying Ganymedes, Pediments of the Temple of Zeus, the helmet of Miltiades, Miniature bronze statue of a horse, reliefs use as decoration for the gable of the Temple of Hera building, huge shields and many other. I felt happy, proud but also a bit sad while looking at all those pieces of art, which are so useful on connecting the past with the present and the future…
Soon afterwards, I visited the archaeological site. To tell you the truth, I prefer museums to sites, as a lot of fantasy is required to imagine that these old stones used to be buildings and the place you are at is where one of the most important athletic events of seniority came alive! For me, the most impressive buildings were the Stadium and the Philippeion. Unfortunatelly, we were not able to stay for very long, as the heat was somewhat exhaustive.
Oh, and don’t forget that Olympia is also a nice village, with cute tavernas, cafeterias and souvenir shops, if you want to have some rest.

KALAVRYTA
Kalavryta symbolizes an important part of the country’s history too. This is not only where the Greek War Of Independence started(at the Agia Lavra monastery where the banner was weaved and was blessed by Bishop Palaion Patron Germanos) but also where the Nazis killed 2000+ people(boys and men over the age of twelve-only 13 survived) in retribution for the killing of 81 German soldiers captured by partisans. And the ironic fact(not written in wikipedia!-A taxi driver there told me!) was that the mayor of Kalavryta, who had studied at a university in Germany, could not believe that the Germans would do such a bestiality! As a result, he convinced the residents to stay home and not abandon the city. In the aftermath, his predictions cost thoushands of lives!
Recommended places to visit are: the memorial site of Kalavryta, the Holocaust museum, the ‘’Agia Lavra’’ monastery and the ‘’Mega Spilaion’’ monastery. Unfortunatelly, I was able to visit only the memorial site and the second monastery.
The memorial site is nothing more than a list of the Holocaust victims carved into big pieces of marble. On the other hand, the ‘Mega Spilaion’’ monastery is a unique place! Built on the rocks of the mountains, the monastery uses caves as temples and rooms! Although it’s being renovated, we were able to see the church and two rooms.
The church is really old, has been on fire four times(!) and features a miraculous portrait of Madonna, called ‘’Panagia Deksia’’(deksia=right in greek). It was painted by Mark the Evangelist and it is said that he used Madonna herself as a model! He actually, used her shadow, as he could barely look her in the eyes! As a result, he painted Madonna holding Jesus with her RIGHT hand, instead of left, as she’s usually seen(have ever heard of photo negatives ;) )! The painting is made of mastic and wax and is almost 2000 years old ! According to the tradition, the painting was found by Saint Euphrosyne, who was a female shepard. Moreover, when the two founders of the monastery, entered a cave holding the painting, a dragon appeared, bursting flames and ready to kill. But when it looked at the painting, it died! This was the first miracle! As far as the wall paintings and architecture are concerned, the church is really interesting too.
On the other rooms, you can see the representation of the first mircale, other paintings, relics and of course, the hand of Saint Haralambos.
My article about Kalavryta would not be complete without a reference to the rack train! The Diakofto-Kalavryta railway runs 22km from Diakofto to Kalavryta, through the Vouraikos Gorge. The trip has been nominated as the 6th most impressive train trip in the world! And I understood why(and you will, if you take a look at the photos above!)!Bridges, rivers with small rapids, tunels, colourful stations and many more is why traveling with this train is a trip not to miss! Words cannot describe it!

ANY CITIES?
1)PATRAS
As I told you, Caminia is near Patras. Patras is third largest Greek city. Built near the sea, it has many similarities with Thessaloniki. Personally, I liked:
A)The hospitality of the city’s residents. All the people we’ve met were polite and charming. From the farmer to the salesman or the waiter! And this is quite a miracle as unfortunately, Patras has a high percentage of unemployment.
B)Πελεκανέικα(Pelekaneika) and Ψηλά Αλώνια(Psila Alonia): The first one is a part of the city where you can find nice tavernas, restaurants and of course, the city’s marina with a cafeteria(Θεατράκι-Theatraki) located exactly next to the sea! So, you can have a sip of coffee while watching yachts, ships and sailing boats. On the other hand, Psilia Alonia, is Patras biggest and best square(at least in my opinion), with cute cafes two and wonderful view of the city.
C)The castle of Patras: The castle was built by Byzantine emperor Justinian I after the catastrophic earthquake of 551, re-using building material from pre-Christian structures. The fort remained in constant use thereafter, even until the Second World War. In the Byzantine period, it was besieged by Slavs, Saracens, Normans and many others, but it never fell. In particular, the successful repulsion of a great siege of 805 AD by the Arabs and the Slavs was attributed to the city's patron saint, St Andrew. In 1205, in the aftermath of the Fourth Crusade, it was taken over by the Franks, who strengthened it further, opening a moat on all three sides. In 1278, the Principality of Achaea pawned it to the local Latin (Catholic) Archbishop, while the Pope leased it to the Venetians for five years in 1408. The Latin Archbishop remained in possession of the castle until 1430, when it was taken by the Despot of the Morea and future last Byzantine emperor, Constantine Palaiologos, who made extensive repairs to its walls. The castle fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1458, and remained one of their main seats of power in the Peloponnese throughout the Tourkokratia. The Venetians took the castle in 1687 during the Morean War, and kept it until the Morea was retaken by the Turks in 1715.
During the Greek War of Independence, the castle resisted all attempts of the Greek rebels to storm it. Only in 1828, with the arrival of a French expeditionary force under General Nicolas Joseph Maison, did the Ottomans hand it over. Following independence, the castle remained in use by the Greek Army until after World War II. In 1973, the castle was turned over to the 6th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities. It is used nowadays for cultural events, especially during summer, and features a theatre with a capacity of 640 seats. And of course, the scenery is really beautiful too, as you can see above!(info from wikipedia.org)

D)Άγιος Ανδρέας(Agios Andreas/ Saint Andrew The Apostle Church). The biggest Christian church of the Balcan, this church can really impress you! The wall paintings, the mosaic that portrays Jesus calling Andrew and Peter and of course, the part the cross where he died and his relics are only a few things you can see. You can also visit the old Agios Andreas church, located exactly next to the new one. The most impressive things here is the crystal chandelier and the wall paintings, where for the first time in my life, I saw God portrayed as a person!!
E)The city centre. Cafes, shops of all kind, squares, fountains, galleries, nice buildings. This is the centre of Patras in a few words!
I didn’t like:

A)The city is not really clean, especially on the highways and the city’s main avenue(Paraliaki), that connects the east side with west. The port , the train station and many malls are also here. So I would expect the street sweepers to try a bit more, as this road is really important for the touristic and commercial life of Patras. The ring road outside Patras was also ‘’decorated’’ with plastic bottles and cartons that Big Rig drivers drop. F*ck!
B)That trucks use this road for going to Rio and then to the rest of the country. There are not enough traffic lights and in the aftermath, you see grandfathers with children crossing the road in a hurry, in order to avoid becoming a spot on the asphalt! Moreover, the roads outside Patras are terrible, as I told you, and not suitable for big vehicles.
C)Immigrants: you may think I am a racist but I am not. But do you think it’s normal for those people to live in tents and abandoned train wagons, shit wherever they find, being hungry? It’s not! They stay in Patras but their goal is to move to Italy. But no money no honey. As a result, the unemployment percentage is high, both for immigrants and natives. The first ones try to satisfy their needs in blamable ways, while the second ones become suspicious and racists.

P.S. The Ρωμαικό Ωδείο(Romaiko Odeio-Roman Odeum) is also a -must see- monument but unfortunately I wasn’t able to visit it.

2)MESOLONGHI
On day 4, me and my parents decided to visit Mesolonghi, which is located in the continental part of the country, by using the ferry boat and not the Rio-Antirrio bridge this time. Half an hour later, we were in one of the most historical Greece cities.
I liked:
1)The Garden of Heroes(O Kipos Ton Iroon- ο κήπος των ηρώων). A small oasis in the centre of the city, this garden is a memorial to all these people that fought for the country during the Greek War of Independence and especially, during the exodus of the Mesolonghi residents. So you will see, statues and tombs of Lord Byron, Dionysios Solomos(know for his poet Eleftheroi Poliorkimenoi and the national anthem of Greece), Markos Botsaris and many other.
2) Museum of the History and the Art of the Holy City of Messolonghi:one of the most underrated museums in Greece, as the guard says. And it really is! Here you can see portraits and manuscripts of Lord Byron, paintings(original and replicas)of De La Croix, Vryzakis, Lansac and other, artifacts, relics, weapons… all amazing! (NOTE: Photos were not allowed but the guard was such a nice person and made an exception for me :) )
3)The vast use of bikes
4)The Mesolonghi lagoon
I didn’t like:
1)As Mesolonghi is rather a small town, during the afternoon, it reminded of a cemetery! Hardly anyone at the streets, shops closed(even Goody’s-the greek Mc Donalds with thousands of shops all around Greece open all day was closed) etc

So here I am, back at home after a week full of memories and awesome activities! I visited Peloponnese, which is located at south Greece and is known for it’s big history(Sparta and Olympia is one of the best examples), for its breathtaking scenic (you will see later) but also for the catastrophic fires of 2007 in Achaia and Ileia.(this is where all the places I visited are located but fortunately, things got quite better since 2007).

ACCOMODATION
Me and my parents stayed at Poseidon Palace and believe me, we wouldn’t change it! Built in Caminia, the hotel is 14km away from the centre of Patras(see below), the port and the train station. 40 really well equiped rooms, 2 suites, a really filling breakfast(milk, coffee, cereals, cookies, pasta flora, cakes, tea, marmelades, pudding, jeley, cream, eggs, beacon, fruit and many many other!!!), a big swimming pool and the most important, really really friendly staff is what you should find here. HOW WAS THE TRIP?
The trip from Thessaloniki to North Peloponnese was not the worst but also not the best one. And I will explain why; Because of the new national road called Egnatia Odos(many people believe it’s the best part of national roads in Greece), going from Thessaloniki to Ioannina was a piece of cake. But, for the rest of the trip(Ioannina to Antirio and Rio to Patras- Caminia), we had to use the old national road which sucks! However, the construction of Ionia and Olympia Odos will probably make things better. What is more, the road system of Peloponnese is really old and dangerous. Lack of road signs and traffic lights, heavy trucks and tractors all over the place, poor road surface are only a few reasons of why it should even not exist! The only exception is the famous Rio- Antirrio Bridge, the biggest suspension bridge in the World! It connects continental Greece with Peloponnese. Crossing it is a really nice experience!

Kings Of Leon Abandon Gig After Pigeon 'shits In Bassist's Mouth' ROFL!

Kings Of Leon were forced to abandon their show in St Louis, Missouri last night (July 23) after they were hit by pigeon droppings.

An infestation of birds in the rafters of the Verizon Amphitheatre saw the band bombarded as soon as they took to the stage.

Writing on Twitter drummer Nathan Followill explained: "So sorry St Louis. We had to bail, pigeons shitting in Jared's mouth and it was too unsanitary to continue.

"Don't take it out on Jared, it's the fucking venue's fault. You may enjoy being shit on but we don't. Sorry for all who travelled many miles."

According to the band's management the quartet tried to continue, but such was the ferocity and direction of the bird excrement that after three songs the group felt they could only call it a night and retreat.

"Jared [Followill] was hit several times during the first two songs," said management spokesman Andy Mendelsohn. "On the third song, when he was hit in the cheek and some of it landed near his mouth, they couldn't deal any longer. It's not only disgusting it's a toxic health hazard. They really tried to hang in there."

The pigeons had earlier provided fair warning of their intentions. Support bands The Postelles and The Stills left the stage complaining of getting riddled with large amounts of bird droppings.

"The Kings Of Leon decided to carry on regardless," the group added in a statement released today. "The band felt it would be unfair to the fans to cancel the show at that late moment.

"We couldn't believe what The Postelles and The Stills looked like after their sets. We didn't want to cancel the show, so we went for it. We tried to play. It was ridiculous."

Venue managers told the band's representatives earlier on Friday about "a significant pigeon infestation problem with summer shows over the years, but they were doing all they could to fix it".

Muse Bassist Compares Being On 'Twilight' Soundtracks To Selling Soul

After making millions of potential new fans thanks to the inclusion of their songs on all three "Twilight" soundtrack albums, Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme may be risking the bloodthirsty wrath of the Twi-Hard Nation with some comments he recently made about the vampire sensation.

"I'm not sure how cool it is to be on those kind of things, but sometimes you've just got to get your music out there in different ways," he told BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat column.

Even with the films' box-office success and the massive exposure for the band, which is stadium-rocking huge in Europe but has not yet broken through in the same way in the U.S., Wolstenholme said he's not sure the trade-off has been worth it. "It's very difficult in America, because you don't have anything like Radio 1, nothing is national," he said. "You have to take every opportunity you get over there, and sometimes you have to sell your soul."

The group's "Supermassive Black Hole" was the lead track on the original "Twilight" soundtrack — and it played a pivotal role in the key baseball scene in the film — while "I Belong to You (New Moon Remix)" appeared on the "New Moon" disc, and "Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)" is on the "Eclipse" album.

"Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer is an avowed fan of the drama-loving band and has said that their music inspired her writing, but Wolstenholme appeared ambivalent about how the music has been used in the films. He said he watched the original movie and "quite enjoyed it," even if it wasn't his "cup of tea," but he has not seen the two sequels.

When it came time to place "Neutron Star Collision" in "Eclipse," there appears to have been some confusion over where it would fit in that added to his uneasiness about participating in the project.

"When we were in the studio writing it, one minute they said they wanted to use it in the end credits, then they said they wanted to use it in another scene," he said. "Then it was another scene, and in the end, we were like, 'Do what you want with it, we don't care any more.' "

The comments were a bit of a turnabout from ones drummer Dominic Howard made in October, when he said the band was flattered to be the only group to appear on the first two "Twilight" soundtracks.

"It might be something to do with Stephenie Meyer and that she loves us," Howard told MTV News. "We met her quite awhile ago in Phoenix — it was before 'Twilight' came out. She's a very nice lady and talked about how she listens to our music as she writes her books. This is all way before it turned into this huge success that it is, before everyone went vampire nuts."

At the time, Howard said that inclusion in the "Twilight" franchise had helped Muse reach out to "whole loads of new people that haven't heard us before. ... It's a nice side project to be involved in."

After moving up, rearranging and canceling a pair of North American dates due to the impending birth of Wolstenholme's fifth child, Muse are slated to be back on the road in the U.S. for a September 22 show in San Diego. And the bassist said things are finally breaking through for them stateside.

"It's going great over there," he said. "Early this year, we started playing in arenas, so it was great to finally take over the full production that we toured with in Europe. ... For a long time, America fell by the wayside and nothing was really happening at all, and we were having problems with our record company over there."

But with a full slate of dates through the end of the year, don't expect a follow-up to last year's Resistance any time soon. "The touring schedules are so crazy that just the thought of another album is just not even there at the moment," he said. "I'm sure [singer] Matt [Bellamy] has plenty of ideas, but physically trying to get together and work on stuff is just not possible on tour. ... The few days off we do have, we like to go home or go somewhere and chill out. We prefer to keep the two things separate and not try and think too much about recording when we're touring."

First, they chose Criterion games(creators of the legendary racing series Burnout) as the creator for the next game and second they returned the game back to the REAL roots! Slipknot Say Goodbye To Their Sorely Missed Bassist...

One of the founding members of the US metal group, Paul Gray was found dead in a US hotel room on Monday (23 May).

Slipknot made a rare appearance without their trademark masks to remember him at a news conference.

They were joined by Paul Gray's pregnant wife, Brenna, who said their unborn daughter would grow up knowing the legacy he'd left behind.

She said: "Paul was my husband, an amazing person, and I want people to remember him for just that. And his daughter will remember him for the way he was."

'Biggest heart'

Paul Gray's body was found by a hotel worker in Des Moines, Iowa.

It's still unclear how the 38-year-old died but police say they're not treating his death as suspicious.

Paul Gray formed Slipknot in 1995 with percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan The band, who won a Grammy music award in 2006 for their song Before I Forget, are on a year-long break from music.

Lead singer Corey Taylor said they'd remember their friend "with love".

He said: "We lost our brother and the world seems a little smaller because of it.

"He had the biggest heart of anyone I've ever known. The only way I can sum up Paul Gray is love."

Slipknot's last studio album, All Hope Is Gone, debuted at number one in the US Billboard charts in 2008.

The band also picked up two awards at last year's Kerrang! magazine awards after headlining the Saturday night at last summer's Download Festival.

Their debut album in 1999 sold more than two million copies.

Tool Working On A New Album

Tool is reportedly at work on their fifth album, the follow-up to 2006's 10,000 Days.

The latest Tool newsletter states, "Members of the band are still in the process of writing new material (three days a week) . . . it shouldn't be long before the dry-erase board is filled with a bewildering array of color-coded intros, progressions, agitatos, con sordinos, crescendos, diatonics, inversions, resolutions, transitions, variations, obbligatos, consonance, and endings - the arrangements that millions will attempt to down-load [sic] off the internet."

Since the release of 10,000 Days, singer Maynard James Keenan has been involved with a musical side project called Puscifer and has released a documentary - Blood Into Wine - about his northern Arizona vineyard.

Tool has won three Grammy Awards and produced chart-topping albums in several countries since forming in 1990.

Scientists Discover Third Prehistoric Human Relative

Scientists have discovered a previously unknown prehistoric human relative to migrate out of Africa, in addition to Neanderthal and modern human ancestors. Researchers say they have a lot more to learn about the creature they call X-Woman.

X-Woman gets her name from a small, fossilized finger, possibly a pinky, found by anthropologists in 2008 in a cave in southern Siberia that contained prehistoric bracelets and other ornaments.

A preliminary genetic analysis of the 30,000 to 50,000 year old bone shows X-Woman represents a third wave of hominins that migrated out of Africa during the Ice Age, between homo erectus two million years ago, that gave rise to modern humans, and Neanderthal, which left the continent a half million years ago.

Svante Paabo is with the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Leipzig, Germany.

Paabo, who led the international researchers says a comparison of DNA with genetic material from anatomically modern humans and Neanderthal shows X-Woman descended from a common ancestor about a million years ago.

"So whoever sort of carried this mitochondrial genome after that, (we think) about a million years ago, is some new creature that has not been on our radar screen so far," Paabo said.

Fossil evidence of descendants of Neadrathal and modern human ancestors has also been found in the Siberian region near X-Woman, further supporting evidence that X-Women may turn out to be a previously undiscovered hominid species.

Scientists analyzed the fossil's mitochondrial DNA, primitive genetic material taken from subatomic particles called mitochondria, which provides energy for the cell.

Researchers are now conducting a fuller analysis of DNA extracted from the cell's nucleus which codes for the entire organism.

Paabo says that study will help scientists determine X-Woman's place on the human evolutionary tree. "We don't know if that person is a direct ancestor of us, for example," he said. "But by studying the nuclear genome we will be able to tell such things. Is it on the lineage to us? Is it on the lineage to the Neanderthal, or is it its own branch?"

A nuclear DNA analysis, according to Paabo, might even tell scientists whether X-Woman is a separate hominin species altogether.

The article by Svante Paabo and colleagues on the discovery of X-Women is published this week in the journal Nature.

22nd Of March: World Water Day. It's Time To Act!

Water is deemed as one of the most essential element to human life, even more so than food.

The human body can last for weeks without food but it cannot last more than three days without water.

In many ways water contributes immensely to sustainable development, yet this invaluable natural resource is being continuously abused and depleted.

Mismanagement and human greed have resulted in severe water shortages and polluted water, giving rise to water crises around the globe.

In 1992, a proposal for an international day to recognise the importance of freshwater was made at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED).

WATER SITUATION

According to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the total volume of water on Earth is about 1.4 billion km3 (cubic kilometers). The volume of freshwater resources is around 35 million km3, or about 2.5 per cent of the total volume.

Out of these freshwater resources, about 24 million km3 or 70 per cent is in the form of ice and permanent snow cover in mountainous regions, the Antarctic and Arctic regions.

Around 30 per cent of the world's freshwater is stored underground in the form of groundwater (shallow and deep groundwater basins up to 2,000 metres, soil moisture, swamp water and permafrost).

This constitutes about 97 per cent of all the freshwater that is potentially available for human consumption.

According to UNEP, freshwater lakes and rivers hold an estimated 105,000 km3 or around 0.3 per cent of the world's freshwater.

The total usable freshwater supply for ecosystems and humankind is about 200,000 km3 of water, which is less than 1 per cent of all freshwater resources.

GLOBAL WATER CRISIS

According to FAO, by 2025 almost 1.8 billion people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world population could be under stress conditions.

Based on World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), each person needs 20-50 litres of safe freshwater a day to ensure their basic needs for drinking, cooking and cleaning.

Nevertheless, according to World Health Organisation (WHO) more than one in six people worldwide (about 894 million) do not have access to this amount of safe freshwater.

Globally, diarrhoea is the leading cause of illness and death, and 88 per cent of diarrhoeal deaths are due to a lack of access to sanitation facilities, together with inadequate availability of water for personal hygiene and drinking.

Today 2.5 billion people, including almost one billion children, live without even basic sanitation. Every 20 seconds, a child dies as a result of poor sanitation. That is 1.5 million preventable deaths each year.

The statistics above come from the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), an international organisation with its secretariat based in Geneva, Switzerland.

STILL MORE PROBLEMS

According to WSSCC, in Sub-Saharan Africa, treating diarrhoea takes 12 per cent of the health budget. On a typical day, patients suffering from faecal-related disease occupy more than half the hospital beds.

In a study done by WWAP, two million tonnes of human waste is disposed into water courses daily. In developing countries, 70 per cent of industrial wastes are dumped untreated into waters where they pollute the usable water supply.

This fact collaborated GEO-4's findings, which states projected increases in fertiliser use for food production and in wastewater effluents over the next three decades suggest there will be a 10-20 per cent global increase in river nitrogen flows to coastal ecosystems.

WWAP also said half of the world's wetlands have been lost since 1900.

Between 1991 and 2000 over 665,000 people died in 2,557 natural disasters of which 90per cent were water-related events.

IMPACT OF CRISIS

The daily drinking water requirement per person is between 2 and 4 litres, but it takes 2,000 to 5,000 litres of water to produce one person's daily food.

According to FAO, it takes 1,000-3 000 litres of water to produce just one kilo of rice and 13,000 to 15,000 litres to produce one kilo of grain-fed beef.

Over the period to 2050, FAO said the world's water have to support the agricultural systems that would feed and create livelihoods for an additional 2.7 billion people.

In terms of the extent of land under irrigation globally, FAO estimates it to be around 277 million hectares or about 20 per cent of all cropland. Rain fed agriculture is practiced on the remaining 80 per cent of the arable land.

The Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change predicts yields from rain-dependent agriculture could be down by 50 per cent by 2020.

Due to climate change, the UN's agency said Himalayan snow and ice, which provide vast amounts of water for agriculture in Asia could decline by 20 per cent by 2030.

It said irrigation increases yields of most crops by 100 to 400 per cent, and irrigated agriculture currently contributes to 40 per cent of the world's food production.

However, poor drainage and irrigation practices have led to waterlogging and salinisation of approximately 10 per cent of the world's irrigated lands.

AN AMBITIOUS DISCOVERY

Scientists have found a way to make smaller portable desalination machines, which could be ``immensely'' useful in countries with scarce water resources, or for decontaminating wells in disaster-struck regions.

The new technique, suggested by researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), is based on the use of tiny, four-by-five-millimeter devices designed to exploit the electrochemical transport phenomenon, ``ion concentration polarization.''

It would take from 1,000 to 10,000 of these devices to make a single desalination machine, which would be comparable in size to a conventional desktop computer.

Such machines would obviously be useful in the earthquake-rattled Chile and Haiti, where the shortage in drinking water has been a problem, the researchers said.

The study was published by Nature Nanotechnology, a peer-review journal.

``A device produced through the technology of our findings would produce a smaller amount of fresh water compared to existing equipment, but would be small enough to carry around, making them effective for relief efforts in disaster areas or for military use,'' said POSTECH's Kwang Kwan-hyoung, who participated in the research led by MIT's Kim Sung-jae and Han Jong-yoon.

``The hydrogen ion concentration level of the water produced by these devices range between 7 and 7.5 pH, with salt concentration of around 3 mm, thus qualifying as potable water by World Health Organization (WHO) standards. The method also allows for the removal of micro particles and pathogens.''

The shortage of fresh water is a critical global challenge, a situation made more severe by population growth and increased industrial and agricultural activities, and this has scientists around the world devoting themselves to developing more effective technologies to convert seawater into fresh water.

The current standard approaches to seawater desalination are reverse osmosis, which employs high-pressure pumps to force brine from water brine through a membrane impermeable to salt, and electro-dialysis, a process that uses electricity to draw salt ions out of water through a membrane.

Although these methods are relatively energy efficient in terms of freshwater conversion, they both require large plant-scale operations and significant amounts of power consumption, while the removal of bacteria and other pathogens presents another challenge.

Therefore, researchers have been focusing on developing portable, low-power desalination systems, which would be useful for government and military use in disaster-stricken areas or resource-limited settings. And the Korean researchers claim they have the best solution for now.

Ion concentration polarization, also called as ion depletion or enrichment, occurs when a current is passed through ion-selective membranes, and the Nature Nanotechnology paper suggests a mechanism to use this phenomenon to isolate desalinated water from seawater streams.

The desalinated and ``concentrated'' streams are divided and flow into different channels ― the process is also designed to push salt and other large particles away from the membrane, which eliminates the possibility of membrane fouling, a frequent problem in reverse osmosis and electro-dialysis plants.

Two German politicians bolster relations with Greece by suggesting it starts flogging its prime assets...

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou will apparently meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel today after relations between the two countries took yet another turn for the worse: two German politicians (including a member of Merkel’s own party) have suggested that Greece needs to start selling off some of its islands to pay its massive debts – or, indeed, some of its world-famous buildings, like the Acropolis. We’re not quite sure whether they’re suggesting the Germans would buy any of these islands (we suppose it’s a novel solution to the difficulties of getting a towel on a sun lounger in Corfu) – but it’s not going to do anything for the hostility that seems to be simmering between Greece and its most likely benefactor… The two politicians – Josef Schlarmann, a senior member of Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats, and Frank Schaeffler, whose Free Democrats is also part of the ruling coalition – made their comments in an interview with newspaper Bild, which published them under the terrifically insensitive headline: ‘Sell your islands, you bankrupt Greeks! And sell the Acropolis too!’ Their theory is that since the Greeks are so deep in hock, austerity measures won’t be enough to curb its crippling deficit: they also need to be taking radical steps, like selling off some its islands (only 227 of the 6,000 it owns are inhabited apparently, so the argument is presumably that they have plenty going spare). Its buildings and companies could also be sold, they say – leading some wags to suggest that the Acropolis might be first on the block.

We’re not totally sure how serious they are; obviously it’s true that when people are insolvent, they have to flog any assets they own, but the chances of Greece flogging its land and its main tourist attractions are non-existent. But it does indicate the strength of feeling in Germany against any kind of Greek bail-out (for which German taxpayers would end up footing most of the bill). That said, Papandreou insists he doesn’t want the Germans’ cash: he just wants their support, so he can borrow money at cheaper rates while he pushes through reform (and he had some good news on that score yesterday, when a €5bn bond issue was oversubscribed). And he’s got enough problems on his own doorstep: if the furious Greeks aren’t busy boycotting everything German, they’re protesting at his latest round of austerity measures.

Still, it’s a warning for other countries with a weak economy and a huge deficit. Perhaps in a few years’ time, international creditors might be demanding that the UK starts trying to auction off Buckingham Palace and the Channel Islands.

The Knack's Doug Fieger Dead At 57

Doug Fieger, leader and guitarist of '70s power pop sensation the Knack, died on Sunday (February 14th) in Los Angeles at age 57. Variety reported that Fieger, who had been battling cancer since 2004, had two tumors removed from his brain in 2005. He was diagnosed with brain cancer that year, following a Las Vegas gig at which he became disoriented and forgot the lyrics to the group's 1979 hit "My Sharona." Following his initial diagnosis, Fieger had half of one of his lungs removed.

The band posted a brief statement on it's website knack.com saying, "Our hearts are broken, we will miss you Doug."

"My Sharona," which Fieger co-wrote with guitarist Berton Averre, immortalized Fieger's then-girlfriend Sharona Alperin and went on to top The Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks. The Knack's 1979 debut album Get The Knack spent five weeks at Number One and was certified double platinum. The followup to "My Sharona" -- "Good Girls Don't" -- peaked at Number 11 on The Billboard Hot 100.

"My Sharona" had a chart revival following it's inclusion in 1994's "Gen X" comedy Reality Bites.

Prior to forming the Knack, Fieger was the bassist in the Michigan band Sky, which was founded by future Rolling Stones, Traffic, and Blind Faith producer Jimmy Miller.

Over the years, Fieger had appeared on recordings by Ringo Starr, Roy Orbison, and Was (Not Was).

Recently Fieger provided lead vocals for the track "Dirty Girl," from firmer Kiss guitarist's Bruce Kulick's recently-released album BK3.

The Knack's drummer Bruce Gary died in 2006 at the age of 55 of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Franz Ferdinand have started writing new material for their fourth album, frontman Alex Kapranos has confirmed.

The Scottish singer/guitarist toldBBC 6music that he and guitaristNick McCarthy had been working on new songs at McCarthy's house for the follow-up to last year's'Tonight… Franz Ferdinand' effort.

"I've been round at Nick's and we've been writing some things, and trying to do things in a different way again," he explained. "You'll hear it before too long."

Kapranos added that he was a touch wary about revealing too much about the writing sessions this early on, however.

"Before the last record I talked far too much about it," he said, "as we had the ideas and I made a vow that I wasn't going to say anything about what we are actually doing until we've done it, and then wait about another three weeks."

Alexander McQueen, fashion designer to the Hollywood's elite, has committed suicide on the eve of his mother's funeral. He was 40.

The British designer who had A-listers like Madonna and Lady Gaga among his clientele, was found dead this morning at his London apartment, reported Daily Mail online.

McQueen who was famed for his unconventional - published designs and shock tactics, was found hanging in his apartment and the police have ruled out foul play.

The designer known as the "hooligan of fashion", was at the pinnacle of his career and had earlier hinted at suicide through messages posted on the micro blogging website Twitter after the death of his mother two weeks ago.

Tributes have started pouring in with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry hailing him as a "creative genius".

"The fashion industry has lost a true great. An icon of all time," said former Spice Girl and fashion designer Victoria Beckham.

Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker who famously attended New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala in 2006 with the designer, both wearing matching outfits, said," I am shocked and overcome with grief upon learning about the untimely death of the quiet genius. There has never been anyone like him. And there simply never will be."

Scorpions have announced that they will split up following the release of their next album and its accompanying live dates.

The German rockers are set to tour for the next "few years" after which they will call it a day, they announced on their official website,The-Scorpions.com.

In a message on the site the band, who release new album 'Sting In The Tail' on March 19, said they made the decision because they wanted to bow out on a "high note".

"While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was – and how much fun we were still having in the process," they wrote. "But there was also something else: we want to end the Scorpions' extraordinary career on a high note.

"We are extremely grateful for the fact that we still have the same passion for music we've always had since the beginning. This is why, especially now, we agree we have reached the end of the road.

"We finish our career with an album we consider to be one of the best we have ever recorded and with a tour that will start in our home country Germany and take us to five different continents over the next few years. Criterion Game's NFS Shown At Internal EA Meeting

Burnout developer Criterion has tweeted that it will be revealing its upcoming Need for Speed title today for the first time. Here's the catch -- it's being shown off internally at Electronic Arts, which means you ain't seeing squat. This internal meeting (and the public admission of such) is a good indicator that we will be seeing something soon, perhaps as early as GDC in March (but more likely E3 June).

Rumors had surfaced that this Need for Speed game would be subtitled "Out of the Law," but the developer quickly squashed that. Because that sounds like some nonsense that was run through Babel Fish, and it can do better than that.

DJ's Van Halen Outrage

A British DJ has come underfire from mental health groups after playing Van Halen's "Jump" moments before a suicidal woman leapt from a bridge.

Steve Penk was broadcasting on 96.2FM The Revolution recently when four lanes of the M60 had to be closed because of the drama.

As police attempted to talk the woman down, a listener phoned in to request the rock classic, which was then aired.

Penk played it after expressing his sympathy for road users, but the unidentified individual then jumped from the 30ft bridge.

She only suffered minor injuries but the DJ has been slammed for his actions and accused of acting in "very poor taste" by Mind.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for The Samaritans commented: "It shows a lack of compassion and understanding".

Some listeners were also outraged by Penk's behaviour, withLorna Guinn calling it "pathetic and nasty".

"It's irresponsible - this woman could have overheard it on someone's car stereo", she said.

However, Penk has insisted he would do the same thing again. "The entire area had been thrown into total chaos by a single troubled woman.

"I was very sorry to hear that the lady had subsequently jumped from the bridge but relieved that her injuries were minor.

"If, as has been suggested, the woman jumped because she heard it from a passing car radio that's unfortunate. But I don't regret playing it for a minute", he said.

Coldplay Face Plagiarism Claims Once Again

With a sense of timing they could set their watches by, Coldplay have found themselves to be on the receiving end of a plagiarism claim once again. This time, a "well talented" yet "unknown" songwriter by the name of Sammie Lee Smith filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleging that he wrote the songs 'Yellow', 'Trouble' and 'Clocks.'

According to reports in TMZ.com, Smith claims to have written around 4,000 songs, all contained on approximately 100 tapes with each tape housing about 40 songs. He is insistent that Coldplay cease playing the songs and has demanded an unsubstantiated sum of money by way of compensation.

As previously reported on Spinner, in September 2009 Coldplay reached an out-of-court settlement with hard rock guitarist Joe Satriani. The guitarist had alleged that Coldplay's global hit 'Viva La Vida' bore more than a passing resemblance to his 2004 song, 'If I Could Fly.'

Around the same time, singer-songwriter Andy Gallagher claimed that the video for Coldplay's 'Strawberry Swing' had "striking similarities" to the video of his own 'Something Else' while both indie band Creaky Boards and singer Yusuf Islam (fomerlyCat Stevens) both made plagiarism allegations of their own.

Coldplay have yet to respond to the new lawsuit.

There is now speculation that System Of A Down will be reuniting in the near future, thanks to a one-sentence Tweet from bassistShavo Odajian. Odajian simply wrote "Are u ready for System???," prompting rumors that the rockers may be ending their hiatus. Following tours for their double releases of Mezmerize and Hypnotize, System went on hiatus in 2006. Singer Serj Tankianhas operated as a solo artist since then, while guitarist Daron Malakian and drummerJohn Dolmayan formed the short-lived band Scars On Broadway.

The soundtrack for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland will include tracks by Owl City, Robert Smith from The Cure, and Franz Ferdinand, announced Myspace's music blog. Muse's Matt Bellamy says the band have been asked to write the soundtrack for the upcoming remake of Clash Of The Titans.

The film, which is due out on March 26, is a remake of the 1981 sci-fi classic. It stars Liam Neeson andGemma Arterton.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Bellamyadmitted that film work is somethingMuse are keen to break into in the future.

Lady Gaga will never be accused of being subtle. She donned a hat made out of her own hair at the Consumer and Electronics Show (CES), where it was announced that she has been named Polaroid's creative director on a specialty line of imaging products.

The pop star wore her blonde locks splayed out and teased into the shape of a sunhat as she appeared in Las Vegas yesterday.

She expressed her excitement about her new position with Polaroid and joked that her parents were thrilled she finally has a "real job."

"I myself am a Polaroid girl," she told the crowd, which was still busy jostling each other for a photo. After about two minutes, her microphone seemed to malfunction and her voice was barely audible. In earshot, however, she did announce: "This is not an endorsement deal. We won't be selling cameras that have my face on them." She also said she was pleased to be bringing instant cameras "into the future."

Cancer Kills Tsutomu Yamaguchi, Survivor Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki A-Bombs

The only survivor of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Second World War atomic bombings has died aged 93.

Tsutomu Yamaguchi, known as "Lucky", was in Hiroshima on a business trip on August 6, 1945 when a US B29 dropped an atomic bomb.

He suffered serious burns to his upper body as well as temporary blindness. He returned home to Nagasaki, about 190 miles to the south west, which suffered a second US atomic attack just three days later.

The only person certified by Japan as having experienced both attacks, he said last year: "My double radiation exposure is now an official government record."

Mr Yamaguchi died on Monday from stomach cancer. It is not clear if it was related to his exposure to radiation.

Soundgarden Set To Reform After 12-year Hiatus

Soundgarden look set to reform after a 12-year hiatus.

The US rockers, who disbanded in 1997 following tensions in the band have put an announcement on their website, Soundgardenworld.com, suggesting that they are set to gear up again soon.

"The 12 year break is over and school is back in session," the message read. Frontman Chris Cornell added on his Twitter page,Twitter.com/chriscornell: "Knights of the Soundtable ride again!"

Members of Soundgarden have played together since the disbandment, but Cornell has previously said that they wouldn’t consider any reunion a full reformation unless all the original members were involved.

"When Soundgarden broke up, my discussions with the rest of the band was 'We have to have an agreement that we will never tour Soundgarden– Soundgarden will never exist – without it being a unanimous decision and that everyone who was in the band is in the band'," he toldNME.COM.

The band members are yet to reveal what their reunion will entail.

Linkin Park Working On 'Beat-Driven' New Album

Linkin Park, who are working on the follow-up to 2007's Minutes To Midnight with producer Rick Rubin (Slayer, Gossip) are reportedly using keyboards and programmed drums more on the as-yet-untitled disc than they ever have before.

Mike Shinoda told Spin.com the band are about "halfway done" their fourth album, and he says Linkin Park are working to "redefine" themselves on this release.

"I feel like on [2000's] Hybrid Theory we wanted to introduce ourselves to the world with a certain sound," he said. "Then on [2003's] Meteora we were trying to show that we weren't a fluke and we could do the sound that made us successful a second time.

"By the time we got to Minutes To Midnight, we wanted to break down that sound and go outside the confines. Now that we've done that, we feel like we can do anything."

Shinoda told Spin.com while he thinks it's "hard" to describe what the new material sounds like, he says it's "more beat-driven" and works with keyboards and drum machines more than the band's previous work.

"It sounds brand new," he said. "The thing is, there are so many different ways to make music these days with virtual instruments, software applications, physical instruments and computer programs.

"Then when you get in the position of being able to use almost any of it — that's what we did on Minutes To Midnight. We wanted to play with as many instruments and sounds as we could."

Shinoda previously described the disc as "grandiose insanity".

Avenged Sevenfold Drummer, James Owen Sullivan, Found Dead At 28

Avenged Sevenfold drummer James Owen Sullivan, also known by his stage name ” The Reverend Tholomew Plague” or simply “The Rev” was found dead in his Huntington Beach home yesterday on December 28 at approximately 1 p.m. The talented drummer was 28 years old. Sullivan was a huge Pantera fan, another band with a tragic early death. Jimmy also played many different instruments other than the drums, such as the piano and guitar. His death is being investigated by The Orange County Coroner’s Office but at this time the Southern California musician is thought to have died of natural causes. The metal community and many blog are speculating the death as an overdose. Sullivan was rumored to have history with drugs. No statement has been made yet from Avenged Sevenfold or the Management of AX7 in regards to this tragic loss. .

This has been a rough week for young Hollywood with the death of Britney Murphy and the false report of Winona Ryder dying. We will have more on this unfortunately true story as it develops.

John Frusciante Confirms He Has Quit Red Hot Chili Peppers

Guitarist John Frusciante has confirmed that he has quit the Red Hot Chili Peppers. On his website blog, the veteran rocker writes that his “musical interestes have led [him] in a different direction,” and that “there was no drama or anger involved” in his decision to split from the group.

Frusciante goes on to write:

"I really love the band and what we did. I understand and value that my work with them means a lot to many people, but I have to follow my interests. For me, art has never been something done out of a sense of duty. It is something I do because it is really fun, exciting, and interesting.

"Over the last 12 years, I have changed,” he continues, “as a person and artist, to such a degree that to do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature. There was no choice involved in this decision. I simply have to be what I am, and have to do what I must do.”

Frusciante’s departure marks an end to his second tenure with the group. The Chili Peppers were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in September, but this week it was revealed the band did not make the 2010 Rock Hall class.

Ozzy Ozbourne To Release A New Album

According to NME.com, Ozzy Osbourne has set "Soul Sucka" as the title of his next album, which is slated to come out in June. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Let It Die", "Diggin' Me Down" and the title track.

The album, produced by Osbourne and Kevin Churko, will be the first to feature new guitarist Gus G. (FIREWIND).

Ozzy Osbourne's latest CD, "Black Rain", was certified gold on December 14, 2007 by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of 500,000 copies in the United States.

"Black Rain" was reissued on November 20, 2007 as a "Special Limited-Edition Tour Package" featuring a bonus CD of live tracks and B-sides. The bonus CD includes the following cuts:

Joleen Baughman, 39, was hurt in a car crash two years ago, when a man on drugs hit her pickup truck head on. She suffered severe injuries and was in the hospital for weeks.

After about six months, Baughman began to notice a strange side effect. What she didn’t know was that a nerve in her pelvis was damaged, which happened to be the one controlling her sexual arousal!

Her husband was initially excited about his wife’s new-found sex drive. However, despite copious amounts of intercourse, he was exhausted and she never felt any release.

It was not until she went to see a doctor that the damaged nerve was discovered. She was officially diagnosed with Restless Genital Syndrome, also called Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome.

“I was very relieved to find out my condition was not psychological,” Baughman said. “For a while I thought I was going crazy or that it was somehow my fault.

The public, or at least the press and politicians and a few aviation luminaries, got a first look at SpaceShipTwo in Mojave on Monday evening, at a grand rollout event hosted by Sir Richard Branson ofVirgin Galactic and designer Burt Rutan. "This is truly a momentous day," said Branson. "The team has created not only a world first but also a work of art. The unveil of SS2 takes the Virgin Galactic vision to the next level and continues to provide tangible evidence that this ambitious project is not only moving rapidly, but also making tremendous progress towards our goal of safe commercial operation." To honor a long line of ships in the U.S. Navy and Britain's Royal Navy, as well as spaceships flown by NASA and perhaps most famously in Star Trek,, SS2 was christened Virgin Space Ship (VSS) Enterprise. The name also "looks to the future of the role of private enterprise in the development of the exploration, industrialisation and human habitation of space," according to Virgin Galactic's news release. The spaceship, which holds six passengers and two pilots, will start flight tests early next year. SS2 was rolled out mated to its WhiteKnightTwo carrier vehicle, which has already been flying for about a year and has mostly finished its flight-test phase.

The SS2 design will be refined and completed during the test program, according to the news release. It will be powered by a unique hybrid rocket motor similar to the one used for SS1, which is currently under development. The test phase will last 18 to 24 months, "or longer, if safety dictates," the company said. "We are not in a race, we will launch only when we are content that it is safe to do so." The tests will begin with captive-carry flights, then flights allowing the spacecraft to disengage from WK2 for glide tests, followed by powered flights, according to EAA. It has been another long road but it's been this long for a reason! There have been many obstacles along the way, lots of hard work and long hours in the studio. However, we think that we will produce Bullet For My Valentine's finest album to date!!! We have written lots of material and we have narrowed down these songs to what we think are the best of the bunch! Avenged Sevenfold Hard At Work On 'Epic' Next Record

It's been two years since Avenged Sevenfold released their self-titled LP, and four years since they've issued their breakthrough studio set, 2005's 'City of Evil.' Now, the Huntington Beach, Calif., rockers are back in action, working on their next record, which guitarist Zacky Vengeance thinks will be the band's "most personal and epic."

Vengeance says that Avenged were inspired by the world around them for this next record. "We came off of the road amidst one of the most turbulent times in history," he says. "Everything going on around us was overwhelming, frightening, frustrating and confusing. I must confess that it was also very exciting to me. I'm sure you can share my sentiment."

Since getting off tour, the mission has been clear. Write new songs and hit the studio as soon as possible. "We have been focused on only one thing: writing and preparing to record what to me is our most personal and epic Avenged Sevenfold album," he says. "The reason is the fact that everything happening around us in the entire world might be a once-in-a-lifetime source of inspiration and direction."

Vengeance sees it as an exercise in distilling everything around them down to an uncontrollable piece of metal madness. "We have been harnessing every aspect of what makes Avenged truly unrelenting and building off of that. I don't think we sleep too much anymore because of the excitement we feel while writing this album. Only a world spinning out of control could inspire the music and vision we have now. Once again, it is f---ing exciting."

The band will continue fine-tuning the fresh material 'until we feel every note does both you [the fans] as well as us justice," says Vengeance. Avenged Sevenfold is also mulling over producers and engineers for the project, "so that the second the axe falls and the album is written, we will spend day and night in the studio until it is complete. “I’m working on Rock Band 3′ and making the controllers more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game,” Harrison told U.S rag the Chicago Tribune. “Give me a couple years, it’s going to happen.”

Harrison also told the Boston Herald that Rock Band 3 will be more than a game that has players pantomime in rhythm. It hasn’t been long since the release of Rock Band 2 so don’t expect to hear too much about it anytime soon.
