Our Own Milky Way Galaxy Is 50% Larger Than We Thought

New research carried out at Harvard University has discovered that our very own Milky Way galaxy is actually much bigger than we previously thought.

For the longest time, we have been shown various diagrams and such of the Milky Way galaxy, showing its shape, size, etc.

It appears though that we have been wrong for a very long time as astrophysicists have discovered that our galaxy is far bigger than we believed.

The researchers carried out the study looking into the rotation of our galaxy.

What they found was that the Milky Way rotates at a speed of 600,000 mph, far faster than previously estimated.

Because of this, they were able to calculate that it is actually 50% bigger than previously reported.

This means that we are not much smaller than our neighbor, the Andromeda Galaxy.

Instead, we actually pose the risk of at some point crashing into that galaxy due to our larger size.

This is an interesting discovery to say the least, and one which will likely change how we view our own galaxy.
