25th Of March! PHEW!

Ahh, a nice and relaxing day, finally! I visited the Kerkini lake with my parents again, to do some horse-riding, but unfortunatelly, the weather didn't help! I was on the horse when the rain started! Poor Kostis, poor horse!! But I really had a good time! Better wet than tired from studying! But you may ask, why not at school? Well, it's March the 25th, the national revolution of Greece against the Turkey empire day! Let wikipedia explain more!

The Greek War of Independence (also known as the Greek Revolution) (Greek:Ελληνική Επανάσταση Elliniki EpanastasiOttoman Turkish: يونان عصياني Yunan İsyanı) was a successful war of independence waged by the Greek revolutionaries between 1821 and 1829, with later assistance from several European powers, against theOttoman Empire, who were assisted by their vassals, the Egyptian Khedivate.

After a long and bloody struggle, the Greeks thus became the first people of theOttoman Empire's subjects to secure recognition as an independent nation by theTreaty of Constantinople in July 1832. The anniversary of Greece's independence (March 25, 1821) is a national holiday in Greece and was deliberately chosen to coincide with the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary.[1]

Even Criterion Games, the creators of Burnout Paradise posted an article about this day on their official site: The Olympic Games,  Aristotle, and The Elgin Marbles. The Greeks have given the world a tremendous amount and here at CrashFM, we think it's high time we gave back, the only way we know how, through the power of music.

So to celebrate Greek Independance Day on March 25th, here's 7 tracks to pop in your music player of choice and pay homage to the home of Zorba.

Greased Lightning sung by John Travolta from the 1978 film Grease, the forerunner to High School Musical.

His lineage gets him in here, it's
Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou and Fast Love (you'll know him better as George Michael)

The Swedish phenonmenon get a hugely successful modern day Meryl Streep makeover so
Mamma Mia by Abba has to be included.

Ask your folks (or their parents) about this one and you're bound to get a dreamy-eyed look from your dad (or grandad)
Nana Mouskouri - Only Love

Liverpudlian's The La's get a mention for There She Goes with the reps then "following the herd, down to Greece" with Blur, Girls and Boys for our early 90's childs.

Greece's own entry to the 2008 Eurovision, Kalomoira and My Secret Combination is our penultimate selection because we absolutely have to round it off with the song that everyone knows but doesn't know how, Zorba The Greek by Kosta Kostanis

This is DJ Atomika, sounding off.

If you don't know, DJ Atomica is the guy that helps the players while playing the game! Something like a commentator.
