Some Of The Latest NME News...

NME is probably my personal favourite source for the latest music news, as you can see from many of the articles I post. Here are some of the latest news from the NME team.

1)Jack White: New White Stripes album due 'maybe next year
The White Stripes are set to begin work in earnest on their new album later this year, after Jack Whitecompletes his touring duties with his side-project The Dead Weather.

White says that that he and Meg White have already been working on material for the upcoming album, which “won't be too far off. Maybe next year.”

"We had recorded a couple of songs at the new studio," he toldmusicradar.com. "I talked to her about coming by when I was done in the summer rehearsing with The Dead Weather - I won't be done in the summer touring with them, but after the summer jaunt."

The band cancelled tour dates in 2007 after Meg White began to suffer acute anxiety, which the frontman now says “is in the past.Meg is a very shy girl, a very quiet and shy person. To go full-speed from a dead-halt is overwhelming, and we had to take a break."”

“My son was being born, so we didn't had a lot of time left. We were trying to cram everything into a short time span, and we were just plowin', man! The train was out of control," Whitesays.

He also revealed that the reality of touring is the opposite of what most people think:

"We just needed to stop for a while. When it comes down to your health...It's hard; people don't really understand. They think you go up on stage and you're having a blast, like you're partying or some shit. That's not the case. It's hard work to go on tour."

2)Lynyrd Scynyrd Bassist Dies(Age 48)
Lynyrd Skynyrd bassist Ean Evansdied yesterday (May 6) in Mississippi following a long battle with cancer.

Evans joined the veteran Southern rock band in 2001, following the death of former bassist Leon Wilkeson

In a posting yesterday on Lynyrd Skynyrd's website, the band wrote: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of longtimeLynyrd Skynyrd bassist Ean Evans. Ean put up a valiant battle with an aggressive form of cancer and he will be sorely missed by family, friends and fans."

3)Flaming Lips to take requests for festival appearance
The Flaming Lips have announced they will accept requests from fans in advance of their appearance at thePitchfork Music Festival this summer.

The band will perform at the event in
Chicago on July 19, and will take requests as part of a ‘Write The Night’ format adopted by the festival.

"
The Lips are more than glad to be part of 'Write the Night'Wayne Coyne told Pitchfork. "They will do their best to accommodate the wildest and most obscure of request-- covers included."

Those who purchase tickets will be sent a link via email with instructions on how to vote for songs they wish to be included in the set. The voting closes June 12.

4) Guitar Hero Van Halen On It's Way
A new version of the popular video game 'Guitar Hero' featuring Van Halen is due to be released later this year.

Activision is currently developing'Guitar Hero: Van Halen', which is due out in the latter half of 2009 and will allow users to play Van Halen's greatest hits as well as songs byWeezerQueenThe Offspring andQueens Of The Stone Age, reportsSpin.

The company has not yet confirmed which members of Van Halen will be avatars in the game, but when asked if the game would feature David Lee Roth or his successor Sammy Hagar, an Activision representative responded, "This is definitely Van Halen, not Van Hagar.

'Guitar Hero: Van Halen' follows on the heels of the popular Aerosmithand Metallica versions of the video game.

5)Paramore collaborating with Green Day and MCR man
Paramore are currently recording their third album in Malibu withGreen Day and My Chemical Romance producer Rob Cavallo

The collaboration began on the band's collaboration for the'Twilight' soundtrack, and the producer is now in charge of the group's full album

“It's almost too good,” frontwomanHayley Williams told NME.COM of their collaboration. "Almost like I'm waiting on something bad to happen because it's been so easy. We were lucky because the position that we’re in a lot of people would have taken advantage of the poppier side of our band. If anything, Rob took advantage of the heavier side of our band, which is really cool.”

Tracks believed to be under consideration for the album include possible single 'Ignorance' and'Playing'. Other working titles include 'Brick By Boring Brick'and 'Careful'.
